Kai's 1st Swim Meet

Our kids have always loved the water and swimming, so it has always been a big priority for us to fit in some swim lessons in the summer.  This summer I found a local rec center that offered lessons for the girls and a swim team for Kai that had overlapping practice times.  Score!  When we were in Vegas Kai did a junior swim team about 2 years ago and it was great, but last summer was a bit crazy and he was so busy with camps for other sports that we never did any organized swimming with him.  We've always thought he might like it and be well suited for a swim team though.  So needless to say I was happy to find this here in UT which was fairly casual and still fit in to his other sports camp stuff.  A great plus has been that Wilkinson kids (all the same ages as our kids) agreed to join in the fun with us.  So their boys take lessons with the girls and Amanda is doing the team with Kai.

So after just a few swim team practices Kai and Amanda were signed up for their first swim meet.  Our expectations were pretty low going in as we had no idea what to expect and they were so brand new to it all, but we were thrilled that they were going to get to experience being in a swim meet.

Kai picked 3 races to compete in.  His first race was the 25 yard backstroke, his 2nd was 25 yard butterfly, and his 3rd was 50 yard freestyle.  We had so much fun watching him and it was extra fun that his Mullins cousins were in town and came to cheer him on as well.  Amazingly he ended up winning each of his races!  He was thrilled to bring home 3 1st place ribbons and we were thrilled that he had had so much fun.  Kai loves all sports, but it was great that he tried something new and had a great experience.  It was also super fun to get to share his first meet with Amanda who also did super well.  Hopefully there will be some more swim meets in the future.

*Ignore the obnoxious cheering. :)
