Halloween to the Extreme

We have had quite the Halloween this year. Lots of celebrations, dressing up, trick or treating, and on an on. Kai really seemed to get it this year- especially the trick or treating part. We got his costume in CA back in September. After the recent fires it seemed even more significant. Here are some pictures to document the seemingly never ending celebrations.

Fun times! Now we're ready to move off of Halloween for another year and forward to Thanksgiving.

Mom, Dad & Whit Hit The Road

They just got their reverse 911 call telling them Del Mar is under mandatory evacuation and they need to leave. The fire still seems to be a far distance away, but the wind is blowing in their general direction so they want everyone out. This San Diego fire is covering such a huge area- this fire started so far away from where my parents live that it is hard to comprehend how much space it is covering. At this point the evacuation is seeming like more of an annoyance- hopefully it will stay that way.

I talked to them as they were driving out and we we all got a laugh as they followed a little convertible that had its top down to accomodate a huge painting in the back. Makes one think- if I had only a convertible to put my most tresured things in what would I take?

Lance and I experienced fires in Malibu. We have prepared to leave before- it is strange to try to figure out what things you have that can't be replaced. It puts the concept of material possessions in a whole other light.

Sunday Drive

On Sunday before Church we decided to drive up one of the local canyons to get a closer look at some of the Fall colors. So pretty!

Congrats to My Mom

This past weekend my Mom went on a fast trip back to Illinois to be honored by her alma matter Illinois State University. She was inducted into the College of Educations Hall of Fame. It was really quite a wonderful honor and it sounds like it was really nice. Here is a picture of my Mom, her parents, and her sister.

Getting Focused on Fall

Yes, Fall is certainly seeming to be in full swing around here. As I said last year about 100 times- I love the Fall here. I love the colors, I love the air temp, I love that the holidays are approaching etc. I just love it all. So we have been doing our part to enjoy this special time of year with some decorations, pumpkins, a pumpkin spice candle, homemade apple pie.........

Last week Kai went to art class with his buddy Andrew and Andrew's Mom Rochelle. I had a work training thing so poor Rochelle was on her own fingerpainting with 2 two year olds. Kai came home amazingly clean though and with this super cool bag.

In other news we survived Lance being at a work thing in Palm Beach Florida Wed.- Sat. and are super happy to have him home again. When we picked Lance up at the airport Kai wrapped himself around Lance's neck and kept giving him hugs and kisses and telling him "I love you Daddy" for about the first 20 minutes. Oh to be loved so deeply. It was really sweet.

We're off on another week and hoping it's a good one.
