2 Weeks

We made it to the 2 week mark with Zuri today. We are feeling much more back in to the swing of things at this point. The middle of the night feeds are an adjustment to get used to again but Zuri has actually been pretty cooperative about them so far. She's been giving us lots of 4 hour night stretches which has been awesome. She's been doing a lot of eating and sleeping. So far she seems to like the motion of the car and will give us small bursts of time when we put her in the swing we found on Craigslist. She hasn't been a super huge binky or swaddle fan but we're working on both of those things as we find them to be saving graces. She does love to cuddle.

The nursing has been the biggest challenge once again. I saw the lactation people 3 times in the hospital and 2 times since we've been home. Zuri latched on well in the beginning but the pain is awful for me. When my milk came in she started having latching issues on top of the horrid pain. After a miserable week of nursing I began pumping and have been giving her pumped milk in a bottle. It is a lot of work and time to feed her, pump, and clean everything all the time but I'm thinking of every bottle she gets of pumped milk as a victory at this point. If she was our first I'm sure I could keep it up longer, but I want to be fair to Kai and Rori too with time so it is one day at a time. The ease of formula is highly tempting- just not so much the cost.

A large part of why we are feeling more adjusted is the fact that Lance's parents and Aunt Grandma Wendy came and helped us this past week. It was so great to have them here. Grandma and Wendy drove down on Monday. Then, on Wednesday morning Grandpa flew down and traded places with Wendy who flew back home in the afternoon. There was lots of spoiling- yummy meals, older kids being entertained and taken back and forth to school, help with doctor visits, and extra hands always willing to hold Zuri who really likes to be held.

Lance's parents left on Saturday morning so we decided to take the kids to the local park splash pad to let them run off some energy later in the day. It was a nice day, but thankfully the temperatures haven't gotten too hot still. We have been dreading the heat coming so this has been a nice gift.

Today was the first day on my own with all grandparents gone and Lance at work. I'm happy to say we got Kai to school on time, made it to my 2 weeks doctor appointment, and even got in a quick trip to Costco. The hardest part is just getting out the door in the morning so once we did that we were good.

So, now we're on to week 3!

She looks so much wiser than two weeks - love it. I hear ya on the nursing. I lasted the shortest amount of time with Andi. It was the toughest adjustment. Pump as long as you can and as long as you're sane. The formula will come soon enough but it's awesome you're even going through the pumping drill right now. And really, it's so much easier using a bottle in public. As the pumping becomes more of a pain, I would do half pumped half formula for your transition. GOOD LUCK - been there and I'm here for you!!!!!! Also, the whole getting out of the door thing is ridiculous - I am so impressed you got Kai to school on time.

school on time, doctor, and costco on your first day alone?! that's nothing short of amazing.
I feel like I could have written a very similar post just a few months ago regarding nursing and having 2 older kids that need you. We probably do almost as much pumping as nursing because we are on the go, in the car, in a hurry, etc. etc. Whatever is best for you and your family will be great.
I'm just amazed you are keeping up such a great pace 2 weeks after a C!
