Cubs 2013

We wrapped up baseball season last night just in time as it is starting to heat up here in the desert.  Kai had a great time and his team did really well.  Like flag football in the Fall it was fairly intense in regards to practices and level of commitment, but it was also so well run and done with the right amount of perspective.

Kai had played some very casual rec baseball the last few years, but this was a whole other level and he really rose to that.  At this point I think baseball might not be his very favorite sport, but he did really like it and I think he'd have even more fun next year when he is one of the oldest at this age level.  When the kids get up to bat it is pretty nerve wracking, but he was so consistent with his hitting that they even moved him up in the lineup mid season.  For some reason it felt like he was often getting up to bat when there were 2 outs in close games.  I'm pretty sure I would have cracked, but he always pulled it out when they needed him to.  Geez!  He had a lot of fun and loved being part of such a great group of boys.

Grandpa Utah was even so great to come down and cheer on the Cubs one weekend.  We loved having him and letting him get a glimpse of our life during baseball season.  He was also willing to hit some of our favorite food places for pre and post game meals.  We also introduced him to our newest find just in time for the heat- Rita's Ice.  Yummy!

We love watching the kids play sports and the baseball games were really fun, but it will be nice to have a break for a bit now.  It isn't the easiest thing to contain a 2 year old and pack toys, snacks, drinks, sunblock etc. at multiple practices and games a week.  We're looking forward to kids sporting events someday in the future where both Lance and I get to sit at the same time to watch.  One great thing about this season though was there were several younger siblings that enjoyed playing and often entertaining each other.

Again, we are so grateful for good coaches and supportive families of the other players.  The last 2 games of the season were the playoffs and it was really neat to see the boys playing under the lights and having their names announced when they went up to bat.  It was a fun season!
