Baseball Opening Day 2013

Kai has now officially made the transfer in to baseball season.  This year he is an official member of Little League.  He had to attend a day of try outs and then there was a draft and now he is a member of the Rookie Cubs.  When Kai found out he was going to be on the Cubs the first thing he said was "Matt & Mike aren't going to like that, but Great Grandpa Illinois will.  Maybe if I'm not a Cardinal they'll like that it is at least Illinois." My cousins are big Cardinals fans and like to rub that in to our Grandpa who is a big Cubs fan.  Mike will at least we glad to know that he's been wearing his Illini baseball hat to practices.  :)

Two of the coaches are his football coaches from the Fall that we really loved.  They are serious and the expectation level is high, but we really appreciate that they are able to balance that with lots of positivity and keeping things in proper perspective.  Kai loves that he is on the same team as his best buddy Evan (his Dad is one of these coaches) and a handful of other boys from football.

We started off the morning (7am-9:30am) with team pictures and the opening day parade and festivities.  Then we had a break for a few hours before we got to drive 30 minutes to his game.  All in all I'm thinking it was about 5 hours of baseball today plus drive time.  Whew!  The girls actually did really well though and fun was had by all.  Kai and his team played well and Kai got to try out a couple of positions and got on base with a good hit.  We were all pretty tired tonight, but glad to have survived it all successfully.

Next game is Monday night...........
